What Is Necessary For A Dental Crown?

dental crowns Dallas

Dental crowns are one of the most common restorative procedures there is, and we do a lot of them at Shwarts Family Dentistry in Richardson.

Placing a typical crown consists of several steps:

  • Tooth Preparation. Any decay is removed and the tooth is shaped. Sometimes the tooth is too small; in that case, we build up its core with filling material to construct a tough base for the crown.
  • Creating a Good Impression. A putty-like substance is used to mold an impression of the tooth and surrounding teeth. An impression is also made of the teeth opposite the crown. This ensures a good bite.
  • The Temporary Crown. As the permanent crown is being made, a temporary crown protects the tooth. Patients need to be careful with temporaries. They aren’t as strong as the permanent crown. Avoid things like gum and sticky foods.
  • Your Crown Is Put In Place. When the new crown is ready, it is placed  and fitted in your mouth.

At Shwarts Family Dentistry in Richardson we place a lot of dental crowns. Patients throughout Richardson, Plano, and Prestonwood come to us for these and other restorative dentistry procedures. Call to schedule an appointment today!
