The Sedation Dentistry Procedure in Richardson, TX

No matter what sedation method you choose, the administration is similar in almost every way. We’ll cover the high-level steps of a sedation dentistry visit below, and afterward will explain the different sedation options.

  • Initial exam: Dr. Kessner, DMD, will meet with you to determine your dental needs. After you both arrive at a comfortable conclusion and treatment plan, another visit will be scheduled, or you can even be prepped for treatment that same day.
  • Sedative administered: When you’re ready, your dental sedation will be administered until you are in a calm and relaxed state and ready for treatment to begin.
  • Dental treatment: After you’re in a comfortable position, the dental treatment will begin. You should feel calm during the whole treatment, but if you don’t feel comfortable at any point, just let Dr. Kessner, DMD, or our staff know. We will stop the procedure and do what is necessary to help you feel comfortable again before proceeding.
  • New outlook: Leave our office with a new outlook on dentistry and how you feel about it. You may find, as many patients have, that you are amazed at how big of difference sedation can make.

Laughing gas and IV sedation dentistry help to relax patients in North Dallas.

Types of Sedation Dentistry near Richardson, TX

Laughing Gas | Laughing gas is a very mild dental sedation which has been used successfully for decades. It is administered through a small device placed over your nose. Laughing gas is great at “taking the edge off” your dental visit, and is a great option for those who just need a little help to relax during their visit.

Intravenous (IV) Sedation | If you deal with more severe dental anxiety, IV sedation may be just the ticket for you. IV sedation is introduced directly to your bloodstream, so it can start working rather quickly. Intravenous sedation can place you in a state of complete relaxation and make even more involved dental procedures seem easy and comfortable.
